Quarantine Sunday School

Family friendly lessons you can share with your church family during these very unique (to say the least) times

This page is for all those who never thought they would end up being Sunday School teachers!

I'm sure many of your churches (like mine!) are not meeting for the next few weeks (at least) while the health professionals try to help contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

And that means...there is no Sunday School! So I want to help you whether you are a parent, a teacher, or somewhere in between. The lessons below are perfect for leading a child in a fun, but important conversation about what is happening in the world and what God's Word has to say about it!

Quarantine Sunday School Lessons

God is in control of disease

Week 1

"I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it seems like all around us everything is cancelling, huh? First it’s school… Then, it’s some churches or businesses. It feels like everyone has just retreated inside their homes and is looking out at the world like it’s a little scary to go outside...."

All Under Control

Week 2

Did you know that every store in America seems to be out of toilet paper? People are freaking out and the shelves in the grocery stores are bare! It reminds me of when there’s an earthquake/tornado/hurricane and we are without power for a few days and everyone rushes to go get more stuff than they need to make it through!

You and the flowers

Week 3

What are some things you need to grow strong and healthy? Besides vegetables, you know I am ALWAYS telling you about those vegetables!

I want you to stop and think about the flowers outside. Once you plant a seed in the ground, what happens? It gets sunlight and nutrients from the soil and it grows, right?

One big disappointment

Week 4

You know what’s funny? A few weeks ago, if you would have asked me how I would like being home all day and able to lounge around, I probably would have said that sounded like a dream! But, here we are, only two weeks into social distancing....

A Muddy Mess

Week 5

A long time ago, people used to believe that if you were sick or disabled, it was because God made you that way as a punishment. They assumed that people who were deaf couldn’t hear because God was punishing them, or that people who couldn’t walk were being punished, too.

The Neighborhood

Week 6

There are a lot of different ideas floating around about where and how the coronavirus started, aren’t there? Some people say it started in a lab, and other people say that it started with a bat. Everyone agrees, though, that it started in China.

Mighty God

Week 7

When was the last time you saw God do something really big and really powerful?

Think about this...God is doing big and powerful stuff all the time!

He’s making the sun come out every morning. He wakes up the birds, and makes sure the ocean water stops exactly where it should. He helps your brain think and your heart beat. All of these are pretty amazing and powerful things God is doing, but we hardly ever think about them.

Sin Virus

Week 8

What would you do if a doctor came to you and said, “you know, this coronavirus is a really bad and dangerous thing for a lot of people, but you can fix that!”

What would you say? Would you want to help?

Well, what if the doctor said the way you could make it all better was to be injected with the virus yourself?

Dirty Feet

Week 9

When you think of Jesus, what words come to your mind? Let’s write them down together.

Well, when I think of Jesus, the word ‘servant’ comes to my mind. There are a lot of times in the Bible when Jesus acted as a servant to others. He even said it’s better to serve than to be served.

Alone

Week 10

You know what I’ve noticed the past few weeks? Everyone has very different needs when it comes to being alone or being with other people, right? Some people in our family like not having as many people around right now. There are other people in our family who can’t wait to get out and be around lots of people again!

All Eyes Here!

Week 11

Do you know what’s really weird about right now?

When you look outside, the whole world seems beautiful, doesn’t it? We see the sun shining, the air smells great, and everything looks so beautiful…but we know that there’s an invisible yuckiness out there, don’t we?

Thank You!

Week 12

Have you ever gotten a present you REALLY loved?

In fact you were so excited you forgot to even say ‘thank you’ to the person who gave it to you?

Did you know there’s a story in the Bible about people who behaved just the same? What they were given wasn’t a present, though.. It was...their entire life! Here’s how it went down:

Importance

Week 13

Think about the most important person you know.  Someone who is really powerful and you think could get through anything. Let’s draw a picture of them.

Let kids draw a picture with crayons and paper, then tape the pictures up on the wall.

What made you pick this person?

Shelter

Week 14

Activity: With your family, build a fort out of furniture and blankets. Do your lesson from inside the fort!

You might have heard people talking about “sheltering in place”. In our time, what that means is that we stay inside as much as we can so we can stay safe and keep other people safe from the virus that’s outside. A shelter is a home of safety. It’s why we also say to “take shelter” during storms.

Not Going Well

Week 15

Have you ever felt like everything is going wrong? Maybe people aren’t listening, or they’re fighting a lot? Maybe it seems like no matter where you go people aren’t getting along! What do you normally do when you feel that way?

Well, Habakkuk knows how you feel.

Freedom

Week 16

Have you ever felt like everything is going wrong? Maybe people aren’t listening, or they’re fighting a lot? Maybe it seems like no matter where you go people aren’t getting along! What do you normally do when you feel that way?

Well, Habakkuk knows how you feel.
